Fun project- I didn't even realize this was possible with non-realtime Linux. Apparently you can turn off all interrupts for awhile on the Pi without bad effect other than the system being unresponsive. Probably date/time clock gets slow (?)

Without wanting to diminish the achievement in any way, if anyone wants something a little closer to a proper logic analyser I'd recommend http://dangerousprototypes.com/docs/Open_Bench_Logic_Sniffer I've been using one to debug some I2C and SPI drivers on the Pi and I like it a lot.

Indeed selsinork, I've got one of those OpenBench Logic Sniffer boards myself, and I agree it's a very useful tool for very little money. I picked up one of the acrylic cases for it from SK Pang as well, looks very tidy and safe on the workbench --- http://www.skpang.co.uk/catalog/acrylic-case-for-openbench-logic-sniffer-p-901.html
Ditto my Bus Pirate, another open hardware board from Dangerous Prototypes which I've recommended here before and is another useful gadget. Mine is in one of those SK Pang acrylic cases too, incredibly tiny and cute.
It gives me a chuckle when these "amateur" instruments look so much prettier than their costly professional counterparts.
I have to say though that I'm not too happy with the software for the OBLS, the "Alternative OLS Client" version of the old Sump software. I don't find it very friendly and usable as it could be, although Jawi is still busy working on it so I'm sure it'll improve. I keep getting the itch to hack on it myself, maybe I will one day. At least it's much more usable than the Sigrok client, which is still at a very early stage of development.
Morgaine.
skpang do like their clear plastic laser cut cases don't they.
Yes the OLS client leaves a few things to be desired, but even so, what you get for your $50 is pretty amazing. I was contemplating a Tek MSO with embedded decode option to do this stuff. So very glad I found the OBLS as it does most everything I could need at a fraction of the cost.
I kind of looked at Sigrok and came away thinking - maybe, in a couple of years...
