This is the kind of thing that really worries me about the Foundation. I think the Pi is a great device, but unless they start paying more attention to issues like this, then they are just going to be swallowed whole by more competent people. VIA and more importantly Intel seem to be moving into this space, and the lead the Pi has in terms of being there first is going to be quickly eroded.
I can't keep up with everything going on in the Pi world, but I somehow get the feeling of a little arrogance sometimes, seemingly they are unaware that there are equally brilliant people out there as Eben and Pete, and those people aren't wearing rose tinted glasses. I would enlist those people to help, not shun them as they seem to do, or ignore the points they raise.
