end of "register your interest" at element14

The "register your interest" page at

http://downloads.element14.com/raspberryPi2.html?isRedirect=true&ICID=raspberrypigroup_us

now says:

"We will be opening up to general Raspberry Pi orders on Thursday 5th July. Therefore we will cease to take registrations from Monday 2nd July. Any Registrations placed up until Monday 2nd July will be invited to order prior to general orders commencing. You will be able to place your order directly from Thursday 5th July on an ongoing basis, for deliveries in approximately 4 weeks."

Looked at the registration page, and cou;dn't find anything about an approximately 4 week delivery time.

If that is the case, I may have to order then on July 5.  Four weeks would put my delivery date as early August, which is much better than the mid-Spetember date that customer service told me via chat for my order dated 4/18.

    Bill,

You're right.  The message has been changed to say:

"Registration for the Raspberry Pi has now closed. We will be opening up to general Raspberry Pi orders on Thursday 5th July. Please come back then to purchase your Pi."

I'm starting to believe that Farnell may actually have them in stock one day.  That day I'll be buying several.

Not on pre-order though.  I'm not going through that again.

Here we are, July the 5th and they still have the redirect to the registration is closed page enabled... telling me to come back on July 5th to place an order when it's already July 5th seems rather strange. Oh well, not like they're actually in stock yet anyway.

    Now changed again to say:

Registration for the Raspberry Pi has now closed. We are currently ensuring that the large number of customers who registered their interest over the last week have ample opportunity to order their Pi, and will be opening to general Raspberry Pi orders shortly.

All mention of opening to orders on 5th July has been removed image

Well, I don't feel nearly so bad now - I got an email on the morning of July 3rd, "Thank you for registering your interest in Raspberry Pi. We are very pleased to tell you that you can now place your Pi order." and didn't see it until nearly time to leave, so when I saw that message I thought I'd missed my window to get in before the stampede that was sure to come on the 5th. Now it looks like all of that might have been in error. Weird!

I think we're in a brief transition period just before Pi boards become ex-stock and open to multi-order.

Or is that wishful thinking? image image image

    Morgaine.

Must be wishful thinking the way I see it.

After all, all orders entered prior to 4/18 will be shipped this week (per the faq and mass email).

So with that done, they will start sending out the orders ordered on 4/18 thru to early July (prior to closing off registration.

Seeing as I ordered (direct, no registering interest) on 4/18, I would assume that I'm next in line for a RPi.

Well, you know what happens when you assume...

I'm told (via chat) that my RPi will be shipped in mid September.  Which means that everyone who ordered after 4/18 will get them after that date (even though the faq said early July-August).

How do I know this?  Because Newark/Element14/Farnell told us that they were shipping them out in order received (again, per the faq).

So (in my mind) we're really looking at open ordering sometime late September/October, as they have to send out all the RPi's that are still waiting in the queue from 4/18/2012 until 7/4/2012.  Or they open the order lines, and the dates go even farther out immeadiately.  After all, the 4 week delivery time from July 5th disappeared within less than 6 hours of it being reported here (see this thread)...
