RPi distribution news expected within week

Former Member
Former Member over 13 years ago

Liz says to expect news within a week regarding distribution.

    https://twitter.com/Raspberry_Pi/status/223077088868057088

Maybe the news will be the start of multiple orders, or maybe

it will be announcing the redesigned PCB for residential FCC

compliance, or who knows?  James has been hinting that maybe

Broadcom can't keep up with demand for the SoC, but today

element14 Customer Support said:

"Please note we are on track to deliver all current ORP orders by late July/early August."

(whatever an ORP is)

Element14's twitter account says Brazil won't have inventory until the

"end of September".

Maybe Brazil enforces the FCC residential rules.  Who knows.

Interesting that nobody came back on Eben's comment at the last Maker Faire about Farnell possibly opening up muilti-ordering within a week.  Evidently that was premature, but given the intense interest in obtaining the boards, I was very surprised that the community was totally silent at that interesting revelation.

I picked up on his comment. Deliberately decided not to say anything.  So if they magically became available to order from stock the week after I might be able to order a few before everyone else noticed image

I do think it's a bit strange that neither RS or Farnell were taking registrations with a qty assigned to it. On the understanding that you could get just one for now. The qty could have given them an indication that you really wanted 10, 50, 100 and so would give them an insight into what demand might be once the restrictions are lifted. Maybe that would have supplied some incentive to ramp production quicker and possibly avoid people waiting for six months, giving up and going with MK802, BeagleBone or whatever instead.

I fear that when opened to greater than single unit orders an even bigger backlog may materialise. (does that make me a concern troll?)

Well you only have 3 choices: 1) Suck up to Liz and her lieutenants,  2) Be silent, or  3) Be a "concern troll".  There is no 4).

And the sad thing about this is that it's not a joke.
