New RPi seems not to work

Former Member

I have recently got an RPi, downloaded the Raspian OS, put the image on an SD card with WinImager and plugged in.

I use an USB power supply ( 5V 1A) and connected to a TV. I just wanted to see it all boot up before I got a suitable keyboard,

network connection, etc. Much to my disappointment, I saw nothing. I checked the voltage at TP1, and that appears OK ( 4.8V),

the power light is on and some chips appear to get warm.

Can anyone please suggest what to check to determine if I have a dud RPi or if I have done something incorrectly?

John

You may need to change from hdmi to analog video?

if you put your SD card in your windows computer you should be able to check it out. note: the file you downloaded was a .zip file. and you must load a .img file that is in the .zip file.

Checked that files are aboard both with Windows ( I can see the config files) and with an Ubuntu VM which sees the full file structure.

Diid you check that the checksum on the .img file maches the one in the .zip file. If not then your load is bad.  Also you might try another download like arch linux to check your load.

I am not sure but when it starts up you should see a few words on the screen though.

OK, I have now got a new copy of the OS and re-installed the image on another card.

Sadly, there was no change. Still nothing.

Double check that you have pushed the SD card firmly in, I've found the contacts on the socket are cheapish ones, and wiggling the card (pulling it out then firmly pushing it back in) will often bring it to life.

I have retried pushing the card in and pulling out several times, but no joy.
