Rasp Pi display problem

I got my rasp pi about 1 week ago and have quite some problem in setting it up, hopefully someone can give me some suggestion. Am using a 5v/1A usb power adapter.

 

1. Connecting it to 42" panasonic plasma screen using HDMI cable. I can see the boot up sequence and the wheezy configuration screen.

2. Connecting to AOC 21" (2236Vw) monitor using HDMI->DVI adapter and DVI cable. First 3 minutes, the screen flickers non stop. After about 3 minutes, i turn off the monitor and turn it on. I can see some boot up sequence messages (not wheezy configuration screen) on the screen for 1 second, then the screen went blank. This turn off/on behavior is repeatable.

3. Connecting the same set up as (2) above to a Dell 21" monitor. I can see boot up sequence all the way to a kdb prompt. Display is stable all the way from boot up.

4. Same as 3 above, but this time i plug in an old HP usb keyboard. The Dell screen flickers non stop since power up. Although i can see the boot up sequence, but it is unclear which step it is stopping at.

 

My question:

1. Does plugging into different monitor in anyway alter rasp pi's behavior? or does some monitor draw more power from the unit?

2. Does plugging in a USB keyboard draws relatively high power from the unit?

3. Is there any possibility my monitor is not compatible with rasp pi? Or any settings that I can alter on either my monitor or rasp pi?

4. Any other thing i can do to make it work on the AOC monitor?

  • 3. I think it might be the DVI adapter causing your problem, especially if it works better on your plasma.

     

    2. Some keyboards draw more power than others, but I'm using an HP KU-0316 wired USB with mine.

     

    1. There should be no power drawn by the monitor from your Pi.

     

    4. You could try setting the monitor to a different refresh rate. There is also a config.txt file on your SD Card that can alter some parameters on boot up, but I'm not a Linux expert on what you should alter to what.

     

    Does your monitor have any other iinputs?

        This is one of the suspect i had in my mind, but setup 2 and 3 above is aimed to eliminate this. Set up are 100% identical except the monitor is different. Works on Dell monitor but not AOC.

        I'm using HP SK2885, wired USB keyboard, which I assumed should not be pulling a lot of power.
