Yesterday, I was like WOW ! I WANT THIS NOW !
Yes, you could tinker with that.... for years !
But just reading the user's manual is quite a big assembly job in itself...
It has great potential, I see a great product, but for now, saying that it is EASY to build is for pros... Yes it must be an EASY assembly for professionals but not for a soldering noob like me. (I would like to see more videos about SMD...). Will spend money on something cheaper for my first SMD assembly...
Do someone have a cheap SMD kit to suggest. I want one that could has understandable instructions and I don't want a kind kit that does someting not really useful...
Thanks !

Hi Patrick, that's not a bad idea to try your hand at less expensive kit first. I really like what small kit company, Wayne & Layne, are doing with making surface mount versions of their popular kits. Their Blinky POV (Persistence of Vision) kit would be a nice way to get started. Maker Shed carries it too. They also have some good Hand Soldering SMT tips on their site, too.
Cheers,
Drew
Hi Drew,
Thank you for that kit suggestion ! Yes, I knew about Wayne & Layne, but you reminded me, it's a good company. I live in Montreal and here we have SpikenzieLabs that sells Wayne & Layne kits, but not the SMT ones. On my last visit, they showed me a way to do SMD soldering with an electric pan and a thermo laser gun. As I have both, I will try that.
So yes for sure I will order the Blinky POV Red SMT (it is usefull !! and mostly, COOL!). And why not some more kits, great links !
Maybe your suggestion will save some assembly upsets from beginners, as they will practice on a cheaper SMT kit, at least for their first SMT project. If they miss, it's not a big loss.
Thanks again !
Patrick
