In 1903, a German inventor, Albert Hanson, described flat foil conductors laminated to an insulating board, in multiple layers.  the one with the diode symbols and others. So I say level 13 is Albert Hanson.  Am I right?

It's not Hanson, but they are German if that gives you a clue.

Ok, someone please explain what you're all seeing...  When I look at billabotts post I see the level7 edison lightbulb as usual, html source shows this comes from  http://files1.element14.com/community/4.5.7.5/themes/images/badges/edisonbadgegold7.png

However Johns Level11 is supposedly http://files1.element14.com/community/4.5.7.5/themes/images/badges/badge_11.gif which is a 404, meaning all I see is 'Level 11' in text:

Yesterday, the element14 website was down for a while,

and when it came back up, the gif files such as badge_11.gif

were gone.  Presumably they are in the process of converting

them to png files (with more descriptive names), but that

    hasn't been completed yet.

Okay, second S.W.A.G. for level 13: The principle of operation of crystal diodes was discovered in 1874 by the German scientist, Karl Ferdinand Braun.

For #13, I'm going to guess that those little vector thingummies are magnetic moments.  With your clue, that leads me to Wilhelm Eduard Weber and Carl Friedrich Gauss, both important pioneers in magnetism.  They are two Germans I can think of who have units named after them but are not already honored by contributor levels.

I'm still seeing "Level 1x" labels instead of pretty pictures.  My guess about Level 13 was from memory.
