Banned... No good deed goes unpunished

@Michael - you needed to PM a staff member rather than create a thread on a public forum. Your reply in the same thread details how you were apparently trying to trigger the Rasp Pi staffers to sort some kind of issues out that were mentioned in the article. Is that your job on public forums? To publicly trigger people? If you care for a community, you add value to it, you don't try and trigger the staff publicly, you PM them privately and help them.

Side note. If I had moderated you, I would have deleted your thread and asked you to PM it to staffers in future. Not banned you. But that is me. Forums attract attention seekers who crave an audience at any cost - I imagine, knowing tech sites well - Rasp Pi has attracted its fair share of attention seekers.

The Rasp Pi is an educational device with an impressive mission statement. It's forums are for educating and collaborating and building. Not the usual internet bickering.

@jamodio - the mods sometime answer questions that were never asked? Ok. Sounds perculiar, but I wouldn't mark them down for that. They treat you as a second class dumb newbie? I guarantee you they have never called you that, therefore that is an emotional response from your own insecurities. As for the statements about issues ... why make STATEMENTS about issues?! How odd. On a public forum? Just email the business directly. If you can provide links to the conversations about 'issues' where the mods then label you as a troll, I can already imagine how the conversation went. Come on, we see it on forums everyday. The moderators should stay quiet? Rasp Pi is an educational device, appealing to all age groups and differences, for people to experience, to learn, to grow - but you want the ability to moan and whine unmoderated and ruin all that? No, it's not mods that ruin forums - it's forum users. It's the reason I spoke up today. I get a Pi. I go for walk around the internet feeling invigorated. And stumble over people whining about not being able to whine at a place dedicated to people who want to learn and grow. I guarantee you that if people post genuine helpful posts and threads - they are left unmoderated ... prove that wrong?

@Morgaine - as I said to jamodio - take the issues to the companies - not to the public forums where everyone else is trying to learn and grow and enjoy. You say you can't moderate people into happiness - true - but you can moderate out the annoying whiners that bring the mood down 

If the 3 of you are saying the moderators in charge at the Rasp Pi forums are destroying the atmosphere and community by over-wielding their powers ... prove it. I'm sure that something as big and public as Rasp Pi needs the mods to keep everyone in check, and that is what they are doing. It's about education, not a social club for people trying to trigger responses. Got an issue? Email the companies. Then wait for a response.

Anyway, successful 1st day with Pi. Got my shopping list. Haven't got myself banned from the Rasp Pi forums. Should be a good few weeks learning it all. Thanks for the welcome!

I hope you did your homework well and ordered the right power supply, the right usb hub and the right micro usb power cable.

I also hope you have the correct keyboard and mouse so that your happy mode will remain.

You don't have plans to try a webcam or an usb audio device on the Pi I assume? Those are not educational, so don't be suprised if they don't work.

In worst case you can start debugging the synoptic usb otg driver. It's open source so it shouldn't be an issue.

Right, they only have one employe on their paycheck and I believe it's for the PR stuff.

So, pretty logic people become dissapointed and show that feeling on the forum.

After all, not everybody is pleased with a 35$ (additional hardware costs not included) flashing led.

It's not about seeking attention, it's about the truth being hidden, twisted or denied.

The fanboyism you wrongly diagnosed is actually just an appreication for what they are trying to achieve with the Pi.

Your views on the device are fine. Move on then. Afterall it's only $35, right?!

Irony? Nah mate, just a bunch of whiners who got banned becuase they thought it was a good idea to critisise a charity, publically, on the charities own forum, whilst assuming they were right, and the charity was wrong. That's the charity that's sold half a million devices in 9 months. I'l leave you to make you own judgement on who's right or wrong, given the 35k people registered on the Raspberry Pi forum, and the 20 people complaining that the Foundation's got it all wrong here.

THAT's why you can't allow stuff that's bad for sales on the website - it woudl be stupidity of the highest order. That said, your'e over egging the problems, just like everyone else here in order to try and make their case. From what I see and personal experience, this peice of kit works really good for education, and really good for lots of other stuff. It's not perfect, but it definltey been getting better. ANd how the hell are the Raspberry Pi people supposed to test every single USB thing out there for your 'list'. That plain bonkers - I don't have a list that tells me all the USB devices that work on my Linux box (and it ain't all of them for sure), and that running a state of art distro.

Stop using that Lame excuse they couldn't possibly have tested every usb device.

They admit themself the usb has problems and they promise to fix it. So why should I move on?

Besides that, usb is a standard and has a number of well defined protocols on the bus.

If they would have tested every protocol with no matter what device, they would have seen right away there were problems.

I know enough about business to see that the foundation PR machine works fine. I wished I could say the same about the Pi itself.

But I can see you all have your led flashing. Maybe you are getting bored looking at it? There isn't much I can do to fix that.

At least 20 people had the guts to express their feelings. Probably many more that moved on after they got banned.

It are the whining people here that discovered the 1.8V power rail error with the usb hub chip.

If their charity is a business, they should first and foremost sell working product and provide support to their PAYING CUSTOMERS, otherwise they are a con knowingly selling faulty product. But of course elsewhere they contradict your statement and refer to their charity status in order to explain the lack of support.

Or is a business supposed to sell faulty products while releasing praising PR statements about how fantastic their product is and in case someone notices the reality, pursue them in any possible way, perhaps even employ expensive lawyers to gag those lowly customers?

RP does work, but one has to be really lucky in your choices of accessories. RPF can say whatever they want about USB not being universal, but ultimately their CUSTOMERS expect their devices just to work as they do on other machines running linux provided linux supports the device. The problem with RP is that even though linux supports it, the board can't handle it.

Given the "quality" of some of these posts, I would be surprised if they didn't get banned. Most of the other Element 14 RPi threads also seem to be infected with some of these

people and it has become really hard to find anything useful being said or done in them. Anyway, I just looked in to see what this thread was about and have decided that this is

the last time I'll visit it and to just let the inmates run (ruin?) this asylum.
