Gertboard availability?

I have just had this reply from Farnell:

 

" Thank you for your enquiry.  Unfortunately we are not taking any new orders for the Gertboard at present as this one is going discontinued. We have a new Gertboard that will be launched shortly updates on this will be available through the  element14 website."

 

AFAIK it's only just been released so are Farnell right, or are they behind the times ?

    I spoke to E14 an hour or so back regarding the Gertboard as I got an email Friday to say the board could be ordered:

    When you try ad to your online basket it fails stating that no price for the product can be found hence I logged a query.

     

    Turns out the board is not in stock (so I'm told - even thought he number available keeps reducing started at 192 this morning when I checked) and they are going to change the product code. I was also informed that it would come pre-assembled. Got to say I'm a little disappointed by this as I looked forward to breaking out the soldering iron.

     

    Apparently it will be up to six weeks before they have the kit available :-(

    So Rich are you in the US? Does this mean US folks cannot order this part but others in other countries can?

    It no longer appears on the Australian E-14 site either, so I'd say there is either a problem or an updated version due, to take advantage of the new pin outs.

    Sorry Mike, just got back on forum today. I'm in the UK and still Gertboard-less :-(

     

    I have had the following response for E14 regarding ordering the GB. Not what I was hoping to hear but at least they took the trouble to respond.

    Sorry to disappoint, we have decided to remove the Gertboard from sale. Don't worry we are planning on producing a fully assembled board but this will not be available for another few weeks. So with this we have cancelled your order for the Gertboard.

    To be honest I'm not really ready for my GB, I've only just got my RPi (with thanks to E14, came very quickly unlike my order from RS) and I've still a steep learning curve to ascend with in that I need to learn how to program so I can wait. Long time since I played with the zero's and ones so I imagine the several weeks wait will fly by whilst I get upto speed. Seems like an ice age since I first wrote, "PRINT Richard is ace" and "GOTO 10"  image
