Giant Logo

I wasn't sure what I could use as search terms for this question, so I am sorry if I have missed it.

I am a new RPI user using the Wheezy OS and a composite video setup.  Everything boots fine but my screen is almost completely filled up with the Raspberry logo - I cannot see anything else except the logo.

I have tried some "superstitious" behaviors like reimaging the SD card and outputting to another composite monitor but with no success.  I have also tried turning the overscan off and on.

If I need to get to the command prompt to solve this, since I can't see anything but the logo, how do I do this?

I can see the bottom line as it boots up, which seems to point out that the ovserscan is set correct.  When the GUI is running, the raspberry takes up about 80% of the screen.

Another piece of info - when I right click on the GUI page, the small menu comes up but clicking on any of the choices does not seem to do anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like an overscan issue.  Try various positive overscan settings as described in the RasPi Troubleshooting Wiki.

Thanks.  I am using composite video out and changing these settings doesn't seem to effect anything.

Take a look at this thread at

I've never used composite video on RasPi, but I searched for "composite video overscan" on in the front-page Google search box at raspberrypi.org.  This thread may be helpful: config.txt overscan or XBMC video calibration.  I think you need to set "overscan_scale=0", which is not documented in the Wiki.  If that thread doesn't help, there may be something useful in the others.

Thanks for all the suggestions.  Since I couldn't solve the problem with overscan settings, I figured it had to be something with the OS.  I tried reimaging the SD card to no avail.  I then thought about the card and reformatted it on a Windows 7 machine rather than an XP machine and voila!!

Thanks for all your help.  I learned quite a few things with this troubleshooting and I guess that is why I got the Raspberry PI!

    Thanks, again.
