RPi and Windows8

I have configured RPi as an XBMC server for Video and Music and is a tremendous success.  I have been using the Android XBMC Remote app for quite some time however, having now become a Windows 8 user, I recently downloaded the W8 version of XBMC Remote but experiencing difficulties with the set-up.  Is anyone using this successfully and could offer some advice.

  • Hello Fred, don't know if it is the one linked to below, but it seems a few people are having problems. Are you on a slate, PC or phone with windows 8?

     

    I'm afraid i'm not familiar with the Win 8 version at all, like you I have used the Andriod version and also a cheapie IR unit purchased from Amazon. Do you get any form of error message that you can post ?

    Hi Steve,  thanks for youre reply.  I am using a Windows8 Samsung 500T Hybrid (Tablet and Detachable Keyboard)  The XBMC Adroid Remote is installed on an ASUS Transformer TF101 works OK but is very basic and totally uninspiring.  The Windows 8 remote which I am trying to configure is the XBMC remote + and is currently scoped for use with the Eden version of XBMC but at the moment has problems with Frodo.  Last night I was in contact with the developer Sandro Pedrocchi and it seems there is a bug in how Windows handles the RPi login password and produces the following error message:  Connection Failed to the XBMC server. Please verify connection information and try again. The developer advised that an update which should be released in the next day or so.   I will come back with another post as and when I get my remote up and going, hopefully later this week.

     

    Hi Steve, I need to correct some of the above: 

     

    1)    Sandro Pedrocchi is the developer of the XBMC Remote not to be confused with the XBMC Remote + which I had been trying to connect with the RPi/Frodo set-up..

    2)    Tthe XBMC Remote works well with RPi/Frodo so go ahead and give it go.  It is available on on a 7 day evaluation after which it is $2.99

    Sounds like you have made a lot of progress on that one ! :-)

     

    Hope you get it working, It also sounds like you have some nice kit there to play with !
