Problems HDMI to VGA

Former Member
Former Member over 12 years ago

I have a Raspberry pi, model B, 512.

No problems at all when I connected the HDMI port to a friend's HD TV.

I bought a used Sony VGA monitor, manufactured in 2004 - MODEL SDM HS73.

This works perfectly when connected to the VGA port on my laptop.

I bought from MCM Electronics: "PiView HDMI to VGA converter for the Raspberry Pi - Exclusively from element14", quoting from the package.

When I connected the Sony monitor to my Rpi via the PIView I get the message

"OUT OF RANGE

RESOLUTION > 1280 X 1024"

on the monitor.

Looking up the specifications for the monitor I read:  "Native Resolution 1280 x 1024"

Which device -- the Rpi or the PiView -- is asking for the out-of-range resolution?

If the PiView is responsible,  should I return it?

If the Rpi is to blame, what will fix it?

In the meantime, I have ordered a HDMI to VGA converter with its own power supply.

Any help will be appreciated.

You may need to set your HDMI mode explicitly using config.txt.  There are some examples of settings that work with various HDMI to VGA converters at the RasPi Verified Peripherals wiki.

I'd also suggest entering "PiView" in the search box at the top of this page to see how others have dealt with PiView problems.
