financial results for year ending 3 February 2013

Premier Farnell today released finacial results for the year ending 3 Febuary 2013.

Unlike some previous results, the RPi received neither credit nor blame nor future anticipation.

Its only mention was as an excluded item in the bullet which says:

"Our active customer base exited Q4 up 1.3% on the prior year and 0.8 percentage points over Q3,

excluding Raspberry Pi, reflecting the strength of our proposition and giving us confidence in future opportunities."

Interesting. I suspect including Raspberry Pi would have massively skewed the figures?

Most people I point to Farnell to get a Pi say 'Who'?

Probably so. I think including the RPI figures would have made the results less credible as an
indication of future growth prospects. I think a lot of RPi's were bought as Christmas gifts,
as opposed to most other Element 14 products which probably aren't as susceptible to
seasonal buying patterns.

The quarterly results for the previous (3rd) quarter did break out RPi results:
"Raspberry Pi sales in the quarter of £4.1m increased from £3.9m in the second quarter."

And the quarterly results before that (2nd) reported:
"Raspberry Pi sales in the quarter of £3.9m, ahead of expectation, 90% of which was to 118,000 new customers."

But unfortunately we don't have any 4th quarter numbers for comparison.

I believe part of the agreement to manufacture and sell Raspberry Pi's was that they were sold near or at cost. Element 14 makes little to no money off the Pi's. They do make a ton off of the accessories (keyboards, mice, power units, cases and bundles). That part of why they've put so much time and money into developing this forum for projects.
