Create a home alert system using a Raspberry Pi and Carriots to send you warnings via SMS or emails

carriots
carriots over 12 years ago

At Carriots we have created this nice and very simple tutorial: How to connect a Raspberry Pi to Carriots and build an Alert System. http://www.carriots.com/tutorials/raspberrypi_carriots/alert_system

This systems detects lights and send the information to Carriots where an Application is built to send you a warning via SMS. This tuturial could be the first step to do a DIY home alert systems based on motion detectors or door openings sensors.

Carriots is FREE to use for up to 10 devices. The free account also let you sens SMS and emails!

For less than 75$ in HW you can have your own Home Security System with no montly costs!

Here is the project Schema of the project:

Enjoy it.

That looks useful, I think I will have to sign up :-)

I did make a post a while ago about a home security system, as I was looking at a domestic system using Xbee and a utility company providing the central alert system.

I think this would come close without anywhere near the cost !

    Thank you Steve,

Our aim it to help our community of Developer to build their own Security System on a DYI model. Carriots would be the Alert System to send you alarms. You can even build your security systems with Xbee devices and a central Gateway system that would count as a Single device on Carriots. That would leave you 9 more devices available on our free account.

Obviously if any company sees the opoortunity to build a plug and play security system using Carriots, that's our target of customers. Our customers are companies that build M2M or IOT products using Carriots as a Backend Service.

We also want to encourage pleople to develop very quickly working prototypes of the product they have in mind. Sometimes those prototypes turn out to be profitable companies image

We hope you join Carriots community and that you read our Developer Forum http://forum.carriots.com where you can get more info or help with your project.

    Enjoy Carriots!

    BR

    Miguel

    Hi Nate,

Well this tutorial is very simple but you Motion Sensor or other anti burglar detectors you can actually build you own powerful Security System for almost free. You can also monitor or Control any type of Asset. Some of our users are using it to control energy, vending machines, cars, gardenning, whatever...

Enjoy Carriots and Build new Internet of Things products!

    BR

    Miguel
