Piface Or Gertboard

Hi to one and all

 

I have just got my self a pi ( its fantastic ! ).

 

I am looking to make a robot and don't know what would be the best way forward? (Piface Or Gertboard)

 

As i am a compleat noob (newby) to robotitcs i would like some help if pos?

 

The robot i am looking to make would need to be outside and be able to find its own way around, it would also need a couple of extra servos to preform tasks on its way round.

 

I know i have not given much info on what i am looking to do but i think this is were i need to start?

    For robotics, you may want to consider the Gertboard over the PiFace.  The Gertboard has a bi-directional motor controller built-in.  It also gives you access to the native Raspberry Pi pins which can be used to control motors too (hardware and software pwm is possible).  The PiFace is very handy but the I/O is done through a SPI bus I/O expander chip.  I have seen a demo of PWM via PiFace outputs from Gordon of Drogon.net (WiringPi author) but it is not as simple as using the native Pi pins.
