Raspberry pi boot problem.

e14 Contributor
e14 Contributor over 13 years ago

I got a Raspberry pi for my son and bought an Element14 SD card, loaded with Raspbian Os. It failed to boot up. Red LED and faint Green LED on the PI. No lights on the Key board or mouse. I contacted One-call and got a replacement the next day. But we still have the same problem! What's next, to try?

    Hi Graham,

Sorry to hear about your problems. Try taking a look at the This Troubleshooting Guide it is very thorough. Your best place to get help is the Raspberry Pi Group. I will move this question to there, and I'm sure someone there will have an answer.

My guess would be to start with the power problems section from the problems I've seen answered on the Community that is usually the main problem area.

    Sorry I couldn't help more.

    Jason G.

    Graham

What exactly did they replace, the Pi or the card.

If the power supply is okay, and Jason has pointed you to how to check, its very likely to be the distribution on the SD card.

I had the same with a collegue whose Pi wouldn't boot, and the new 512MB version boards don't like some of the older distributions.

Try downloading the Raspian Wheezy distribution from http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads

There have also been some issues with the cards not being fully connected in the socket, and a slight amount of pressure cured it.

Its not a final solution but at least points you to the problem source.

    Mark
