3G internet for Raspberry pi- static IP

I have suucessfully configured a Wireless USB 3g modem using Sakisg3g for Raspberry pi, and am able to access internet on pi using it.

I want to stream a video over the internet all the time , for which I need a static Ip address.

Is it possible to assign a static Ip address for the USB dongle ??? If yes, how to do so ??

Will that work everytime ???

No,you do do not assign the IP to the Dongle the telecoms provider does this as a part of the Start up of the dongle when it makes a connection to the network. If you want to do this you need to sign up for a Dynamic DNS provider such as Dyndns or one of the many free providers out there. You then have a script on the PI to update your DNS entry with the IP address allocated to you .

you can then connect to the unit with it's URL not it's IP no problems!!

BTW you really aught to connect the PI via Internet proxy of some sort or the bandwidth will be consumed by more than one person connecting to it!
