Replacement RPi Camera cables

e14 Contributor

Now that the RPi camera module is back in stock, it would be good if e14 offered replacement 15 way ffc cables for them. Perhaps also in some different lengths. You could then list them as 'accessories' on the camera page.

Currently you only appear to have 14 & 16 way ffc cables, no 15 way ones

There's an ebay seller offering various lengths up to 1m here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AlienSpec-CSI-DSI-Camera-Ribbon-Cable-5cm-10cm-15cm-20cm-30cm-for-Raspberry-Pi-/121051772597?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Components_Supplies_ET&var=&hash=item1c2f3f76b5

and there have been discussions on the RPF forums of cables up to 4m.

I'd expect there's a market for both replacements and length upgrades that e14 could tap into, especially if people can get them all from the same page when ordering a camera.

Thanks, I will send along to the product team that manages Raspberry Pi to see if we can do this.

    Hi selsinork,

One idea that was posted on the Raspberry Pi Foundation (and I have heard people talk about before) that might be something to consider is trimming a 16 terminal cable to fit. (19084981908498  50mm or 19084981908498 200mm) or if your going to need more then one if you have a steady hand you cold go for a30s at 200mm (19085111908511)

The only one that I can find right now that we have with a short lead time is 91M331991M3319 (152mm) but by the time you would have it shipped your direction it will get pricey.

Just throwing some ideas till we can see what the Product Team can find.

    Jason G.

Thanks Jason. I can always get some from the person on ebay if need be,  I just thought it was a missed opportunity for e14 not to have them. Especially given you're the only one with cameras in stock today and if the 'in stock' number is anything to go by they're selling fairly well too.

As you'll have seen on the RFP forum, the issue of replacement cables for damaged ones came up very quickly after people started getting their hands on the camera. Shortly followed by the "it's too short, where do I get a longer one" discussions.

Given e14 already has a range of ffc cables, I'm sure your supplier of those will have something to offer image

It's been many years since I last had to trim down these sort of cables, not sure I'm up for trying again these days. (and I don't have a box of them to experiment on!)

also, I don't believe that 15way FFC cables are any more RPi specific than a USB keyboard would be, there will be other uses for them.

Even so, I can see that your RPi Camera board customers might well be the most frequent purchasers of these cables if you did stock them image

That's great, but doesn't really address the original question and they don't sell different lengths unlike the ebay seller.  A big part of the original suggestion was to be able to get both camera and cables from one place. It's much easier to order everything in one go, only have to wait in for one delivery etc..
