Gertboard repair?

I unfortunately damaged the three contacts on J7 (3V3) when assembling my Gertboard, so that they no longer accept solder and this makes the jumper settings, and therefore my Gertboard inoperable.

 

I would like to hardwire cables from J7 to J1, and I think C1 and possibly U1 – is this feasible, and if so, could someone provide me with the correct connections to make?

  • Since you are assembling the Gertboard I am assuming that it is a rev. 1 board (rev. 2 boards are all (?) pre-assembled).

     

    J7 is used to select which 3.3V source is used to supply the Gertboard with 3.3V. Using the Raspberry Pi's 3.3V (3V3_RASP, pin 3 on J7) is not recommended so you should probably

    just jumper from U1 pin 3 on the bottom of the board to both pins (also on the bottom of the board) of the jumper labeled 3V3 just below U7 (the motor control IC) using insulated 26 Ga.

    or 24 Ga. copper wire.

    Hi Pat,

     

    I later realized that you may not have installed a 2 pin jumper header in the 3V3 jumper position I described and if you haven't it would be easier to just solder the

    jumper wire directly into one or both of the PCB feed throughs there. What I would probably do is strip a little more insulation from the wire, enough to go through

    the board and loop it into the second header pin and through the board and then solder them both. This may be a little overkill but the thermal reliefs they used on

    the pads is pretty thin and you really want a good low resistance connection for the power supply.
