PiFace Noob

Hi

I have just setup my PiFace and am able to access the PiFace emulator

At the moment I am just looking at what switches what ..... and the PiFace possibilities

Am I right in assuming that with no scripts in place I should be able to put a switch

across Pin 0 and 0v ... and once activated the emulator will show the output relays

changing over ?

I think you might want to download the documentation that is available for it.

    http://www.element14.com/community/docs/DOC-53057/l/piface-get-started-guide

The inputs will show in the emulator, but you need to click the box.

The relays can be controlled in the emulator.

There was one conversation regarding the jumper settings.

You might need to search using the term PiFace ...if I recall it was a comment and possibly on a RoadTest.

However if you set them as per the picture here (click to enlarge it) it will work

    Thanks again

I did read throught the start up documentation that you linked to.

I thought at first that the jumper settings might be the problem but they are all set as the picture

    you also linked to

    In the emulator .....

When I hover over S1-S4 they all light up as they should

When I click Overide Enable and then click on Output Pin 0 and Ouptput Pin 1 .... i can see the relays changing over

Here's the problem - when I connect a switch across Pin 0 and 0v on the Input relays I would expect to see the output relays changing over in the emulator - but they dont ?

    George

The PiFace is a set of 8 inputs and 8 outputs.

They are seperate and you program the RPi to do the interfacing.

ie you might set it to operate the relay for 10 secs, or delay when it operates.

There are plenty of examples around using python to do the bit in-between, both on the site and off.

    Cheers

    Thanks Mark

I found the answer to my question. Enabling 'Keep Inputs Updated' in the Piface emulator allowed me to see whether the switch was working

    George

Not obvious and I'm not sure why it wasn't defaulted to ON.
