said not to be as bad as it looks, but may affect memory prices, even from other vendors.

    It's too early to know when production will restart at the affected plant,

    but there does appear to have been a double digit increase in DRAM spot prices:

    One of the photos in original story (the one with flames) is reportedly of a different fire from 2009.

    The spike in prices comes as no great surprise, unfortunately - RAM is a commercial commodity, rather than just a product. Someone blinked and the price went up. The tendency towards minimal buffer stock makes people nervous too. Lack of surplus is generally a good thing, but there is no plan "B"!.

     

    During my spell in chip fab (albeit at the "dry" end of the process) we were all acutely aware of the perils of the hydrofluoric acid and all of the other funstuff that sloshed around the plant.
