RPi to arduino

tabarus12
tabarus12 over 12 years ago

Hey all, I was wondering if its possible to print the bootloader on the arduino directly from the RPi without the need of the programing board for the ISP on the arduino.

My UNO lost the bootloader due to a bad circuitry that bounced 9v to the 5v out of the arduino and been exploring options from changing the chip with a programed one or getting the programer.

If any one has info on if its possible to use the ISP on the RPi like the ISP board to burn the bootloader I will realy apreciate the info.

    Hi Omar

I have been looking into this myself, and have found this: http://kevincuzner.com/2013/05/27/raspberry-pi-as-an-avr-programmer/

It has guides for wiring and for getting custom avrdude.

I have not tried this myself, as my Atmega chips are still enroute from china.

    Yes.

I have done this using an Arduino environment set up according to Gordon Hendersons advice here:

    https://projects.drogon.net/raspberry-pi/gertboard/

But if you have ICSP, you don't even need a bootloader.

(the fact that Gordons procedures are for a Gertboard doesn't matter, you can use the same GPIO pins and it works)

BTW, if your Arduino is running at 5v do NOT connect it directly. I use a Guzunty

    https://github.com/Guzunty/Pi/wiki

to protect the Pi from overvoltage, but you can also buy level shifters. You can get away with driving 5v logic from a Pi, but it will sooner or later be damaged by reading 5v logic signals.

Programming an Arduino requires input and output signals, so there is no way around this.

    HTH,

    Derek
