How do I right to a 556-ATMEGA48-20PU

Hello I have little active knowledge of electronics,I have always wanted to develop skills in this area.  I have set myself a task , Which I hoped was achievable when I set it but have come across one or two problems. My current goal is to use the indestructible link (Infrared Proximity Sensing Coffee Table Module & Color Changing Glowing Faucet) to create an interactive artwork for kids. I can get hold of the parts, and put them together, The programming looks to be correct. But I cannot work out how to get the programming onto the chip. What sort of equipment I would need ect ect. I suspect this is all basic stuff but as a fella with high school summer jobs as my experience I am struggling to find the answer for myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Phil   PS the chip is an

    Hi, Phil:

You have a terrific idea, but unless you have a bit of electronics background you might want to work up to it.

My recommendation would be to get an Arduino Uno and learn it first .. there's some pretty good tutorials at adafruit (http://learn.adafruit.com/category/learn-arduino) that will help you get started.

Once you've gotten the hand of it, then you'll probably have a good idea of how to approach your project.

Let me know if there's anything that I can do to help..

    Regards,

    Bruce

I would agree with Bruce. The Arduino would be an excellent starting point.
