Is that mandatory to use the special OS to use wolfson pi audio card with Raspberry pi ??

H3ll0 W0rld...!!

Recently I downloaded this manual of Wolfson pi audio card from http://cpc.farnell.com/images/en_CC/WolfsonRPiSoundcardManual.pdf .In this manual they stated that we need to use a special OS for using this pi audio card with Raspberry pi. My question is, is that mandatory to use this particular OS for accessing Pi audio card ?? or any other normal flavors of OS such as OPENELEC , Raspbian, Debian.... etc with some library will support this pi audio card ??

Thanks in advance .

There are two options, one is to use the pre-compiled OS version including all the drivers and configuration for the sound card.  I have tested this and it works.

Second option is to follow the instructions to get the kernel to recognise the WM5102 and WM8804 that are on the Cirrus Card.

    Instructions are here:

    https://github.com/CirrusLogic/rpi-linux/wiki/Building-the-code

I have tried this but haven't got it to work as yet - need to try again I guess image

You can use standard Raspbian if you use a kernel with support for the Wolfson/Cirrus card.

I've modified the driver so that it works with recent kernel versions and put up precompiled binaries on my website along with install/config instructions:

    http://www.horus.com/~hias/cirrus-driver.html

See also this thread on the Cirrus forum for details:

    https://www.element14.com/community/thread/43711/l/driver-fixes-and-updates-to-kernel-31816-and-405

I'm also building OpenELEC images with Wolfson/Cirrus supprt, you can download them from here:

    http://www.horus.com/~hias/openelec-cirrus.html

    so long,
