Do I2S audio header and HDMI work simultaneously?

Hi,

 

I want to play audio/video to HDMI, but also to the I2S header at the same time.

 

Does anyone know whether these will work simultaneously?  Is the I2S audio interface a Master or Slave?

 

I just got the RPi board and haven't quite started to look into this yet, so if anyone has these answers that would help me quite a bit.  Thanks!
