Raspberry Pi controlling a DSLR rig Need help

Hello i am starting a project to create a raspberry pi dslr rig which can pan tilt the camera and release the shutter remotely. This will be done using GPIO but i am not used to using pi i have had mine for a while but haven't used it and need help programming and possibly making this network compatible. + is there anyway of sending the live view on the camera though the raspberry pi

    Not sure on the Live View I know it's possible depends on the GPIO setup and the Video if choosing a small GPIO Screen HDMI or RCA monitor would work. Here are some examples of what has been done hope one is a solution you can work with to customize or inspire you.

    gphoto2 is a program that is able to trigger capture and capture the images. But it is also possible to get the liveview images into the computer.

     

    However, not all DSLRs are able to provide the "liveview" stream to the PC. So then gphoto cannot access the view. Many people blame gphoto2 for that, but it is the camera that lacks the feature. So don't buy a DSLR before you know for sure that it supports what you need.

    Gphoto should be OK depending on the camera you can send  the command via USB. If you need very accurate timing you may need to drive the remote directly via some GPIO. The same  can be done for the servos to do the pan and tilt although you may be better off using a dedicated microprocessor(arduino or something similar) to cover the I/O.

    Hi,

         Controlling a DSLR with gphoto2 is quite easy and can be tested on the PI itself or anywhere else where there is a healthy linux. My own setup is a PI hooked up to a DSLR (USB) controlled via a WEB interface made available via WIFI.

         I suggest that you look at using a gimbal  mount for the camera.

     

         I am working on such a project and it is not very hard. The gimbal requires 2 servos that I chose to control via the application servod (servoblaster).

         I am using a pan tilt bracket like this one : https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10335

         and 2 big servos: Hi-Tec HS-322

     

         The servos are too big for the mount but I got it to work with a few modifications to the intended original design use.

         In my project, the weight is not a factor since I am using a pinhole camera but for larger cameras it could become a problem.

        

         I am having a great time.
