RPi B+ WiFi not starting automatically

Former Member
Former Member over 10 years ago

Not having much luck with my new RPi B+.

1. It's not powering my USB 1TB drive (on another thread on this site)

2. Broke a MicroSD card when trying to get the RPi out of its case (Beware!!)

3. WiFi dongle not connecting automatically when the RPi is powered up.

Has anyone had a problem getting their WiFi dongle to connect automatically when the RPi is powered up? I'm using a known-good WiFi dongle. It works if I connect using the GUI.

Charles

Nice to see you come to us with more concerns/questions

    1. We are still working on figuring out that one image

    2. You did take out the MicroSD card when you tried to take out it out of the case? right?

    3. What brand is the wireless dongle? Do you know a chipset number?

    1. Hopefully it is possible

    2. No. My mistake but I bet I'm not the last person it happens to.

    3. I've tried two.New 802.11n WIFI Mini USB 2.0/1.1 Dongle Wireless LAN Adapter for Raspberry PI | eBay and USB Wifi Adapter for the Raspberry Pi | The Pi Hut. Both work on Model B.  Neither start automatically on Model B+.

Try redownloading Raspbian and reflashing the MicroSD card. If this does not work we can do more.

I started again. Reinstalled everything and it seems to be working now, so thanks for the suggestion. Not sure why that was really necessary. I would have thought I could move the same sd card between a B and a B+.

Just need to solve the power problem now. http://www.element14.com/community/message/124981/l/re-does-rpi-b-have-high-enough-power-output

    OOOOwwww.

I just got my b+ and took my SD card from my b and put it in the B+. It booted but now usb power to the keyboard, mouse or wifi dongle. Can you not swap out the sd card between the two? Do I need to flash a new SD card for the B+ to get the usb ports working?

    Hiya,

You need to have a fresh install of Raspbian for the B+. An older install for a B cannot be transferred directly. I hope this clears up any confusion.
