Broadcom Wiced  WiFi adapter with USB ports

bodgy
bodgy over 11 years ago

I see today on the Raspberry Pi forum that Broadcom have released a special Pi WiFi dongle that has two extra USB2.0 ports on it.

The latest version of Raspberrian comes with the drivers already compiled.

Broadcom say the price is £9.99, or U$14.99

E-14 is supposedly to be a stockist as are the other standard Pi distributors.

The dongle isn't showing up in E-14s Australian website nor the other major distributors. I haven't checked the multidude of UK Farnell/CPC, etc sites.

That is one ugly adapter, you will also want ot be aware of the fact that, the USB is limited to 500mA, your powering the WIFI module and then also sharing that 500mA with two more ports. Not a good idea on a PI. Use a HUB and save yourself a bunch of stability issues

Check the blog again:  it is a powered hub. The pictures show a power jack; its more obvious in the second image.  And the specs say "Support for external power with optional adapter (sold separately)".  Perhaps its so ugly you hit the back button before it melted your display image

That must be the case LOL, I completely missed the power socket, that at least is a good thing, it really should ship with one though because otherwise people will use it without and suffer a rocky system
