Raspberry Pi Model B cannot connect to network

I've received my Raspberry Pi board and all seemed to be working well, but it will not connect to network (tried multiple known good cables, and connecting directly to router). I checked online and one of the recommendations was to check for bias resister R41, and there doesn't appear to be a resistor in that position. Is it defect? Thank You!

    What are RasPi's LEDs doing?  Their functions are also in the RasPi Troubleshooting Wiki.  This will tell you if it's an Ethernet link problem, e.g., a hardware problem, versus a network layer problem, e.g., DCHP server disabled on your router.

     

    When the cable is connected, the RasPi Link LED should be on, as should the Link LED on your router.  If they're not, there's probably a hardware problem with the RasPi or router Ethernet port.

     

    If they're on, try to ping your RasPi from your PC and vice-versa: you should see the Raspi Activity LED flash.  Give the "ifconfig" command on RasPi to see if it has an IP address.  Usually RasPi gets its IP address automatically from your router using DCHP.
