Pidapter

I've just seen a kickstarter campaign that may be of interest to some Raspberry Pi users. All of my current breakouts are for the original 26-way header, so I've decided to give this one a try.

The Pidapter converts the GPIO pin header on the Raspberry Pi version B+ to sockets and provides port pin descriptions.

Unfortunately their campaign deliverable isn't until Jan/Feb next year, so you won't be able to get one for christmas.

You can find out more about the campaign here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/524015131/pidapter-converts-raspberry-pi-b-pins-to-sockets?ref=category

Adafruit has a nice collection of RasPi prototyping adapters and labels: http://www.adafruit.com/categories/163

It is an interesting approach, and nice labelling. I can see it being useful.

Personally I just use a ribbon cable (i.e. sockets both ends, and one in the center), and it serves the same purpose but it doesn't have labelling (stickers on the side would work I suppose). The solution above is tidier for breadboard fans.

It's nice and compact but as you say I'd use some Ribbon to do this. Or maybe a ribbon with one of those T shaped bread board breakouts that are available now form CPC et al

Or one of these with  socket pins rather than .1" strip

Yeah I have a couple of the ribbon cable versions for my older Pi units. Given the unusual approach I thought I'd give this one a try. image

    Interesting way to do it.

Not sure on how supported it is when you insert plugs ...and relying on silicon to stop them coming out the bottom.image

I suspect his funding may miss, given xmas etc.

I tend to use the female plug and this would also do a fine job.

I noted that the PiCrust has not been enhanced for the extra pins.

However I did find these (and they include an 8 relay board)

Yeah it looks like it could be. Hopefully he decides to go ahead with alternative funding and manufacture them anyway. He already seems to have a reasonable line of other products.

I hope so. It's a simple enough board I hope he get's enough funding to do it himself any way!

Yeah. I thought $1700 would be an easy enough target. At $9 for an assembled board the risk of a non-delivery isn't that big. He has demonstrated an ability to manufacture/sell similar products in the past.

    Just an update...

Michael has met his funding goal and on this basis is now ordering the PCBs preemptively to speed up delivery of pledge rewards. image

There are 3 days remaining, so it's not too late to jump on board*.

    *pun not intended!

it's nice to see Michael reached his target ...goes to show that a simple idea is often much easier to get accross and be generally useful than some over engineered baroque solution
