Pi 2 - can't SSH from Putty

Former Member

I've just got my new 1Gb pi 2, and although its nice and fast I'm having a problem connecting to it using SSH via Putty. With my other Pis (I've got three of them) its been very straightforward -  I get the IP address (using hostname -I), open up a session in Putty, type in the IP address and I get a session on the Pi.

I can ping the Pi, access webpages on it (I'm running Apache on there) and ftp to it so I cant see it being a connection issue. The error I get is as follows ;

Anyone else having a similar problem?

    Try running raspi-config on the offending Pi and see if SSH is enabled.

    This was covered last week cant remember the thread now... yes run raspi-config or

    sudo netstat -antp| grep sshd

    and you should see a line not unlike this:

    tcp    0  0 0.0.0.0:22          0.0.0.0:*           LISTEN  1656/sshd

    Weird problem. It half looks as if your windows-firewall is blocking the connection. How about you try to ssh into the new pi from one of the old ones? If the error message doesn't explain to you what's wrong, consider "ssh -v otherpi" are report here what it prints....

    I have found out that if I restart the ssh service I could at least get the login prompt

    sudo service ssh restart

    Someone suggested checking the permissions so I compared the contents of /etc/ssh on the new Pi, and they are different, so I'm going to try changing these so that they match each other, and then see if that makes a difference.
