As relatively new blood myself I'm interested in what path others chose. My first goal was to max over clock it. After that I've not really sure which area to educate myself on next. Share your story and suggestions.

I used my first Raspberry Pi as an informational web service.
It basically connected to the electronic road (VMS) signs that we have dotted around the Isle of Man and polled their current status. It then displayed this information on a web page, giving motorists the opportunity to determine road conditions before their journey. The system also kept a historical log of messages over time. It employed Python scripts, MySQL, HTML5, PHP, SNMP, and Telnet.
The pilot program was hosted entirely on a Raspberry Pi. It has now unfortunately been moved onto a boring web server . The interface was designed for mobile, and can be viewed here: Matrix Signs
I am new to Raspberry pi and Element14. When I got my Pi, I made LEDs blink randomly :-) I have a few more ideas I would like to try. Such as a roulette wheel..
I built Access Point using TPlink nano wireless , and installed tor to access all web sites from behind a proxy
2- installed Dos on raspiberry bi and played with my old pacman gane that i programmed 25 years back
I started making simple circuits and interfacing them with the GPIO pins
