No video raspberry pi 2 B+

I have a raspberry pi 2 B+ and am using an hdmi to vga converter for my monitor. For some reason, the NOOBS installer and Raspbian work just fine, but any other OS not included in the installer shows no video whatsoever. Any fix for this? Would an HDMI to DVI cable work better?

Do you mean one of the standalone operating system images such as Raspbian. These images need to be imaged onto the SD card with a utility such as DD or Win32DiskImager.

For the new Raspberry Pi Model 2 B (not B+), the current NOOBS installer can only support Raspbian. There is an Openelc on the internet that is not integrated with NOOBS. It is similar to what you are used to, but follow directions carefully because not the same.

I will say that the hdmi to dvi will work out of the box on the Pi2 -b , that what I use and I use with out issue with all desktop environment os that are in noobs ,and it works with the openelc from the web site ,i don use openele from noobs . i use this one RPi2 ARMv7 quad core models (Model B 1024MB) from openelec site

a hdmi to vga cable can have issues ,some do if they are not made well ..a hdmi to vga box is better .like this one .

Recently my friend got a new RPi2 and had the same problem.
We tryed to connect the RPI to the computer monitor via HDMI to VGA converter (cheap one from eBay) and couldn't get a picture.
So after a little research We found that RPI will output video to the RCA connector by diffault is no HDMI connection found.
The problem was that the RPi will not recognize the HDMI convertor as pugged HDMI cable.

So the sollution was:
1. Go to the Boot/config.txt file (we have used the OctoPi distribution, but I think this should work for raspbian as well)
2. uncomment the "hdmi_force_hotplug=1" line.

This will make the Rpi output video via the HDMI connection.
