Expanding File System Everytime??

I am completely new to raspberry pi. I managed to install Raspbian on the pi and got it running. The problem i am facing is that everytime i start the pi, i need to expand the file system to full sd, otherwise the gui is displayed in a smaller window. Is this normal behavior for pi? Do we have to expand file system everytime on startup. If yes, is there any way so that is expands the file system automatically on startup?...........And if this is a problem then how can i solve it?......................I am using the new quad core model (Raspberry pi 2 1GB)

Once you expand the SD card it cannot be done again which implies the expand is failing. Can you find the output of the following commands which will be the file startup.txt:
dmesg > startup.txt df -h >> startup.txt

So, the GUI is displayed in a smaller size at first start, but full-screen after a reboot? I don't think you have to resize the file system, but by selecting that option you make it reboot. Sounds like your Pi doesn't detect the correct screen settings at first start.
