Stepper motor control using Raspberry pi 2 and simulink

I am new to the raspberry pi  and simulink. Is there a way I can write a program in simulink to control a stepper motor using raspberry pi 2. Do I need any other external circuitry other than the basic which is the stepper drive, switching  transistors, e.t.c?

    Simulink support serial port...

    RPI have python lib for stepper motor and serial port...

     

    So what I suggest is generate commands from simulink and send it over serial port to RPI...

    RPI python code manipulate these command and control stepper motor from its gpio...

    For drive stepper only you need l293d and four diode or uln2003 driver Ic...no extra components needed...

    The ULN2003 is not suitable for most stepper motors. To use an ULN2003 as a stepper driver you need a 5-wire stepper motor. Or a 6- or 8-wire one that can be configured as a five-wire one. Many steppers are 4 wire nowadays.


    The L293D is an antique chip that could be used to drive a stepper. But certainly it won't be able to operate the stepper at close to maximum performance.


    Often there is a tradeoff where you get simplicity as a tradeoff against better performance.

     

    However in this case you can buy a "polulu stepper driver" based on say an Allegro A4988, which is simpler and will drive all steppers EXCEPT the 5-wire ones. As a bonus using that will be simpler than wiring up your own L293D stepper driver.

    Thanks guys. I found another driver that was compatible with my stepper motor, but the stepper motor however heats up quickly
