element14 Wi-Pi

Question

I have just bought the element14 WiPi USB stick for use on my Pi 2.

So far, I have fallen at the first hurdle because plugging it in to one of my USB slots, does absolutely nothing.

The instructions suggest entering graphics mode (I assume that is the normal Pi desktop with the raspberry picture in the middle) and double clicking on WiFi config.

That is where I struggle because I do not have such an icon.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you want to do it from the desktop, click the menu button, select run, then enter "wpa-gui".

Hi David,

Type in 'lsusb' in a command shell and you should see if it has been detected.

If so, then your desktop environment (with Rasbian or any other distribution) should have a capability somewhere to configure graphically. You may need to search around, or

try the top-right of the display (I can't recall - I don't use the graphical environment).

If you can't find the graphical dialog then you could do it from the command shell.

The steps are at that location are actually written for the BeagleBone Black but it is the same basic procedure for the Raspberry Pi, since it is Linux related, not single board computer (SBC) related.
