Using USB ports on Rpi 2 as UARTS

I am new to the community so apologies in advance if this question has been answered.

Ras Pi 2 has a single uart port (pins 8 and 10). Can a USB port on the Ras Pi 2 with an FTDI 232R cable plugged in behave as an additional COM/UART port (i.e. similar to a COM port on Windows OS)?
