can i boost my laptop memory with raspberry pi2 module?

Hi,

I have a toshiba satellite L40 laptop with 512mb ram, intel pentium dual core processer, 75 GB hdd. I have assembled a raspberry pi 2 model B unit. Can i link it up to my laptop to boost memory and performance. i am a beginner . kindly adivise - suresh rajadorai, banglore, india.

Your laptop has this new thing the kids are calling "upgradable ram". Your raspberry Pi has 1GB of ram, you could spend less money on a ram upgrade of double that amount.

Short and simple answer... NO.

As already mentioned, buy RAM for the Laptop, it is as cheap or atleast not expensive.

In the specs, max RAM is 2GB which would be DDR2. This is very old memory almost 5 years. It may be better to save up for at least Intel Core I5, IMHO.

Not sure why you are asking this question, but Windows allows you to expand your memory using an USB stick
May be you could try to make the Raspberry Pi act as a USB stick. I'm not sure if this is possible, but it's an interesting option for some project I have in mind!

Windows allows you to boost swap space / cache and Disk space with a USB stick, Not main memory

To convert / make the PI act as a USB stick would not be cost effective, $50 gets you a pretty big USB Stick these days, PI is only 1GB at best.

Obviously a USB stisk is seen by additional virtuale RAM (i think nobody was thinking about main RAM!)
Using rpi as USB stock opens up great possibilities because ideally you van make the rpi CPU talk at High speed with a process running on a windows pc
