Single Board Computer - Odroid XU4 Server

Hi All.

As a newbie to single board computers, I have decided to build a Home Cloud Server using the Odroid XU4, however looking at the website I am a little confused as to what components I would need to purchase, Also is it the same process as building it on the Raspberry Pi 2 i.e same commands linux etc

    Hi Omar, let me answer your second question first.

     

    The officially supported distribution for Odroids is Ubuntu, which is a debian derivative, so yes, it is linux, and it will be very compatible with the raspberry pi. I also believe there are debian distributions for it as well, but the Ubuntu should serve your needs.

     

    You didn't say which website you were looking at. Looking at hardkernel's site, and ameridroid, it looks like the xu4 comes with a power supply.

     

    A case is inexpensive but is not included. You will also need an sd card or an emmc module. The emmc would have to be purchased from them, the micro sd you can buy anywhere and load the OS yourself, it's a similar process to setting up a Pi, or you can purchase a pre loaded card from them.

     

    So, to summarize,

     

    If you order the XU4, you get a power supply.

    You need as a minimum, a micro SD card.

     

    The pre-loaded sd card or emmc are optional,

    The case is optional.

    Absolutely the same I have an XU4 here you need an SD card and a PSU which you can get from Hardkernel.

    As Mike said the most usual distro of Linux they use is Ubuntu  although others have migrated Fedora and several others

    Case is optional but I do a nice Acrylic one image

    All you'll need is that micro SD card and PSU unless you are providing your own remember it's a DC jack not micro USB!!
