Using the raspberry Pi 2 mod B to programming arduino with a usb externally powered hub

HI i have started to use a usb externally powered hub due to power demands of arduino and current drops in rpi but when i connect the usb cable from hub to arduino port is not available in ide. I dont understand i mean i tried various things like

> i am in dialout group

> latest usb drivers usbutils

> i checked the lsusb hub seems to work fine

> ohh and one thing i noticed usb keyboard or mouse or anyother HID device wont work with rpi when pluged into USB hub but storage devices like external HDD and flash drives work with hub // hub is fine tho i checked it on other system it works fine.

> my config : rpi 2 mod b+ 1GB( 2.1 A power supply)  /  OS debian (arm kali linux)  / 2 HID's 1 USB hub (connected)

i dont understand how do i make it work?

    this is the usb hub i have i connect my rpi with that weird looking usb port you can see at the back. Hub is quantumzero qz-hb05 , its 1x4 usb 3.0image

    Very nice build quality. image The only issue that I found is, without using the power cable plugged in, the hub does not work.

    • VIA VL812 Rev B2 chipset with latest firmware for best performance and widest compatibility.
    • QuantumZERO USB 3.0 4-Port 12V 2.5A Powered Hub, 12V 2.5A Power Adapter, USB 3.0 Data Cable

    Because this is a USB 3.0, it may not be fully usb 2.0 backward compatible for Arduino. Please try directly on the USB plug into RPi 2. That should work.

    ELY Reply>> This is a Female USB3.0 full-size B connector. Remember RaspPi's USB-A -goes-to-Hub's-B. I assume you have such a Cable. Whether it is USB3.0 OR USB2.0 Cable. I also assume that this USB3.0 Hub IS BACKWARD w/ USB2.0. WRT to USB plug/jack/cables: Do a "Wiki' on USB. There are Two Tables (of particular Interest) and that is the mating of Female Receptacles (Jacks?) and their Corresponding Male Receptacles (Plugs?). Although your USB3.0 Hub may SAY it is backwards compatible, maybe you should use ALL USB3.0 Cabling, EVEN though your devices (RaspPi , Arduino Uno R3) are USB2.0

    I will look at the Arduino Uno R3 specs, and will comment later on this thread.

    As Clem (and others) Asked, could we get a wiring diagram between the RaspPi, Arduino Uno R3 and this Quantum Zero USB3.0 Hub?

    I am Back. I took a look at the Arduino Uno R3, and it is what I am vaguely familiar with. AAR I would say that w/o using the powered Hub, connect any RaspPi Full Size USB 2.0 Female -A receptacle -TO- Arduino's Full Size USB 2.0 Female -B. Alternately using the USB 3.0 Hub, AND Using USB3.0 Cables (for any connections, this to take cabling out of the Equation) Of course this doe NOT  address the possibly non-Backward Compatibility of this particular USB3.0 Hub. AAR (again using ALL USB3.0 Cables) 1. connect RaspPi any Full Size USB 2.0 Female -A receptacle-TO- Hub's Full Size USB3.0 Female -B Receptacle. 2. Connect (on the Hub) any Full Size USB3.0 Female -A receptacle-TO-the Arduino Full Size USB2.0 Female -B Receptacle. I would connect your HID's (Keyboard, Mouse) onto the other USB2.0 ports on the RaspPi.

    As to what S/W one would use? Your Guys/Gals', Guess is Better than mine. I have and (hope) to use a combo of: 1) Win10 PC (running Matlab/Simulink) connected to a RaspPI via Ethernet (either direct? [Cross-Over RJ45 maybe needed here]or a USB3.0 Hub). 2. The RaspPi will be connected to my Gertduino (Arduino variant) via the 26pin Header (GPIO pins). 3. Hopefully there is/are S/W in MatLab/Simulink to accomodate this Set-up.
