Secret New Feature in Pi Zero

clem57
clem57 over 9 years ago

Read Raspberry Pi Zero gains a mysterious new feature, and improved availability :

It’s no surprise that the Raspberry Pi Zero was such a hit. Priced at just $5, the tiny uncased device sold out immediately, and despite occasional reappearances at retailers like The Pi Hut, it’s remained ever-elusive. If you haven’t yet managed to get your hands on the Pi Zero, the good news is it will soon be back in stock, and in much greater numbers than before. And that’s not the only welcome news. The restocked device will be packing a much requested new feature.

Any guess what the new feature requested?

Not sold out yet but the word is they produced a batch of 250,000 and sellers are still limiting one per customer here in UK .

BTW you need a special adapter cable to connect the camera and that costs the same as the Pi Zero.

Yeah, I'm wondering how that "batch of 250k" works. As a company like "pi hut" I would not want a batch of say 100k of those things to arrive all at the same time. They would require a quite big amount of people to pack-and-ship in a reasonable amount of time. Similarly at a factory, having a 100k pile of those things waiting for shipping is also not that efficient.

Anyway... do YOU think that 250k will satisfy demand? I don't.

According to the RPi website "There are roughly 30,000 new Zeros out there today, and we’ll be making thousands more each day until demand is met."

Pimoroni is now showing out of stock for the Zero on it's own but stock available for the bundled options.

It's sort of disappointing.  We are now in 2017 and you can still only order 1 at a time.  Not to mention that the famous "$5" Zero will also cost you $4 or $5 additionally for shipping and handling, meaning it is really a $10 board.   Almost seems dishonest.

For project boards, I like to be able to buy several at a time, cause I usually do something stupid and let the smoke out.....  ;-)
