Invisible Pi?

Hello,

I just received a Raspberry Pi 3. My goal is to use the Pi as a motor control/ data acqusition device for a solar panel array.

I'm new to Pi, but not personal computing devices.

my sole computer, aside from smart phones, is a laptop. I don't have an HDMI monitor or USB mouse. I want to connect to the Pi with my laptop and have tried, but failed. The method developed by Meltwater seems most promising but I cannot ID my Pi. I have tried to get the IP address several ways :

FindMyPi, 32, 64 bit versions

nmap -sn, -v -sn 192.168.0.1/24

arp -a

netstats -a

Network Analyzer, iPhone

Angry IP Scanner

ping raspberrypi, raspberry?

router DHCP list

All failed.

When I use putty, freesshd, xming, I get the login box but tge password is rejected

Well, when you use putty, and get the login prompt, then you HAVE FOUND YOUR PI. You can stop using nmap, netstats, angry IP scanner and whatever!

Default username/password for a raspbian image is "pi" as the username, and "raspberry" as the password. The password will not echo (as is usual with passwords).

I started looking for the IPA because putty requires the address. I have been using the 'autoconfigured' address Windows set up for the ethernet LAN port. That number was obviously not working so I began my search.

Wait, are you saying that you enter the Windows IP address in the putty "connect to" square and then you're getting a login prompt? That would mean that you're connecting to your windows box, and that your windows box is actually running an SSH server. That's unusual as far as I know. But I haven't used windows in like 20 years.
