Invisible Pi?

jimjulian
jimjulian over 9 years ago

Hello,

I just received a Raspberry Pi 3. My goal is to use the Pi as a motor control/ data acqusition device for a solar panel array.

I'm new to Pi, but not personal computing devices.

my sole computer, aside from smart phones, is a laptop. I don't have an HDMI monitor or USB mouse. I want to connect to the Pi with my laptop and have tried, but failed. The method developed by Meltwater seems most promising but I cannot ID my Pi. I have tried to get the IP address several ways :

FindMyPi, 32, 64 bit versions

nmap -sn, -v -sn 192.168.0.1/24

arp -a

netstats -a

Network Analyzer, iPhone

Angry IP Scanner

ping raspberrypi, raspberry?

router DHCP list

All failed.

When I use putty, freesshd, xming, I get the login box but tge password is rejected

    Thank you for your help.

I have since discovered that I can use ICS, Internet Connection Sharing, by setting my wifi access point to share and forcing the IPv4 properties of the ethernet access point to 192.168.137.1, I get full access to the Pi.

I ping raspberry.mshone.net to get the session's address assignment.

I can arp -a and look for the MAC address that begins with B8, the first term in Raspberry Pi Org's range of assigned addresses. There are several ways to get the days assigned address once the IPv4 address has been fixed at 192.168.137.1.

In XP and earlier, the address was 193.168.0.1, but in Win 7, the number changed. Apparently, the change has to be done manually in Win 10.

Special thanks to Syed Anwaarullah and his web article.

    Thank you,

    Jim Julian
