I've seen videos of building an NPR one app using their API's on a Pi zero, but not a Pi 3 and I can't find the software. Does anyone have step by step instructions and links to the software for the project?

I am assuming you want to listen to NPR on the Pi 3. If so install mpc like this https://square-the-circle.com/tag/raspberry-pi/page/2/ . They show how to setup the radio to NPR.
