Audio passthrough quality

e14 Contributor
e14 Contributor over 10 years ago

Hi all,

I am trying to pass the 3.5mm line in to either the line out or headset socket.

So far I have managed to get the line in to go to the outputs but I am struggling to keep the audio quality. I have had it working straight off a freshly imaged card using the provided preconfigured image perfectly at the correct quality, but it only works once.

The problem arises after a restart or full cold start usually or intermittently when running other supplied scripts to reset and reconfigure the audio ports. The sound quality falls through the floor for passed through audio and I have no idea why.

I am assuming there is a step I am missing in the script I have made that either selects the quality or turns on some other flag I am unaware of/ failed to include in my script.

I have played with alsamixer and its CLI GUI and can get it working again at perfect quality by scrolling all the way to the bottom of the input list on the output and back again. But have no idea why that is or  why it is loosing quality with the scripts/ reboot.

My script is using amixer and is attached. My end goal is to have content playing from the pi via an output to a speaker and on a button press switch the software inputs around via a script and push the line in to the output that the speaker is connected to.

Any thoughts appreciated as this is driving me mad! Especially as it will probably a face palm easy fix.

L

PS. As an after thought does anyone have an easy to read list with ID10T proof discriptions, of cset functions for amixer as used in the attached script? particularly which outputs are what, some are obvious some are not, as well as settings related to quality?

O.k so I have narrowed it down to having to change HPOUT2 L/R to AIF2RX 1/2 and then to IN3 L/R to make the audio quality o.k after a reboot.

    Anyone know why?

Also can anyone tell me exactly what AIF2RX 1/2 are / are controlling?

The AIF2RX 1/2 are the output controls for the "SPDIF In" (WM8804 chip). So I am not sure why/how what you described above works...
