From my understanding of the software you only need a basic Raspberry Pi with SD card & power supply.  An Ethernet cable from your router as well if you don't have that with your router.

https://pi-hole.net/ provides a basic install video that might be of help.

http://www.newark.com/element14/kit-pi3-starter/sbc-raspberry-pi-3/dp/84Y5916 is the Element 14 Starter Kit.  This would be a great spot to start if you don't already have items like a power supply, memory card, or Raspberry Pi.  It even has a case you can keep it safe and secure in!

Additional items you may need if you have never worked with a Raspberry Pi before are USB based Keyboard and mouse as well as an HDMI cable with a monitor that supports HDMI.  This is all very flexible depending on your experience and willing to try stuff.  Once you have it all configured you can remotely connect to it and not have to worry about keeping a monitor, keyboard and mouse set aside just for that device.
