Raspberry pi3 Model B Wifi

I purchased the Raspberry pi3 Model B, and it says very clearly "Wireless LAN" on the box. In addition, the comparison charts on the web site says very clearly that this item has Wifi built in. However, when I set it up and install Rasbian, and go to the Wifi Icon, it is disabled. Am I missing something here? Every time I google search for a solution, I come across discussions about having to plug in a dongle in order to get Wifi to work. but if it's built in, why should I have to plug anything in? Someone I met suggested that maybe when it says "built in Wifi" it means that it comes with the chip but you still have to plug in an antenna. But there's nothing in the start guide to suggest this. In fact, in the start guide it says that I have to enter a pre-shared key.But I was never given a "pre-shared key" this is all very confusing.

I have been using the built-in WiFi and built-in Bluetooth in my Raspberry Pi 3 B for a month or so. No dongles, pre-shared keys or aerials are needed.

The built-in WiFi was working out of the (Raspbian) box and I just clicked on the System Tray WiFi icon, selected the correct SSID and typed in the password.

I used the very latest Raspbian download. If you used an earlier release, it may not have the driver for the on-board WiFi electronics.

In fact, I use a simple Python program to turn WiFi off when using Bluetooth for audio because they don't work well, together.

I suggest starting again by downloading the latest Raspbian distribution. If that does not work, make sure that you have a Pi 3 and not a Pi 2.

"Pre Shared Key" is lingo for what most people (for example, Roy above) would call "password".

Yes, I agree with Roy: Get the latest Raspbian, it should work out of the box.
