Raspberry Pi Wordpress Website Loads Extremely Slow And Only Loads Basic HTML

Question

I recently downloaded apache and wordpress to make my own website. It worked fine the first couple times but after I switched the raspberry pi to a different wifi network I experienced a lot problems. At first it didn't work at all and I couldn't connect to the website. After some trouble shooting I fixed that but then I got the error establishing a database connection. After a while I fixed that to, but now it takes around 2 minutes to load the page and there are no images and everything looks malformed. While I was trouble shooting the other problems I had to change the port the website runs on from 80 to 82. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Kai,

If you had to change port then that's severe, sounds like processes are still running for a earlier instance perhaps?

It could be worth checking memory, disk and CPU consumption (just google for 'linux check memory consumption' and so on), so those may be things you can use to troubleshoot further if you have not already done so. Also, have you checked the apache log file? Any clues in there?

Also, it is not surprising if it is sluggish or behaves slightly unusually becase there are likely recommendations/guidelines on amount of resources needed for running Apache and for running Wordpress. I've not checked but I suspect they severely exceed the amount of processing power and memory that the Pi possesses. As a result it will run slower or less optimally or with errors, than on systems that meet the requirements. Maybe settings are tweakable to optimize apache etc for low resource machines but I've not checked, that could be a further avenue for investigation.

There are more lightweight web servers but I don't know their compatibility with wordpress. One example is lighttpd, and google reveals at least some people have tried Wordpress with it.
