Query regarding Touchscreen for RPi 3 running Debian Jessie

I'm planning on buying a touchscreen display for my RPi 3, but I've read discussions where people claim that it doesn't work with Debian Jessie. Can anyone please clarify this for me?

Well, you don't say which type of touch screen you are thinking of buying. I use the type which has an HDMI screen and a USB touch screen interface. I upgraded from RPi2 to RPi3 and there were few problems other than the usual config file tweaks. I use the RPi in my products and that's the reason I use the HDMI/USB form as I am sure it will always work - even RPi4! Implementations that use the DSI port or SPI for the video will always have more of a dependency on the driver files being updated. The USB touch screen is also standard in Linux and only needs calibrating usually. If this is a one-off project then most of the LCD touch screens available should work on RPi3 and will say so in the documentation. Certainly the official screen does work as I have colleagues that use it. As most of my software is written in Python I use Kivy for the GUI. The nice thing about Kivy is I can develop my software on my main PC and it will run unaltered on the Rpi target. Yes, you can use Tkinter or QT, but Kivy is worth a look before you cut too much code.
